=PAPERGIRL'S 5TH YEAR!=

Papergirl #5 - The art of giving from CUTZ. on Vimeo.

Paper Girl is a show, an urban action (the distribution of the roles of art), a bicycle workshop and a party.
If one had to characterize Paper Girl in a nutshell, it would be: participatory, analog, non-commercial and impulsive. That is:
  • Everyone wants to can participate, as he / she submits work and / or helping to distribute.
  • Paper Girl is distributed as a newspaper, but not edited or printed, but consists of artistic originals, which are rolled.Contributions will be submitted by mail or in person. HOW TO originals, prints, photographs, copies, etc. together and each role is unique.
  • You can not roll the art for sale, and they are not distributed to subscribers.
  • When distributing react on the bike must be faster than you think. This effectively puts the chance a major role.  There is no time for stereotyped thinking in selecting the recipient.
The basic idea is art in a different way than usual to bring to the public, to surprise people and bring in their daily contact with art.

=NEW & NEXT...=

The great Sandy Jones and myself (Wes Pelto) have been laying a little low in the blogosphere lately to work on some projects. We've been filming, painting and planning out what's next for VELOSHIP and what direction that we're going to take this whole thing. I've also been working on getting my tattoo license here in Portland because unfortunately, riding bikes doesn't pay the bills. Most pressing matter, If you live in Portland, head to Virtue Tattoo at 3018 E Burnside and check out a bike art show that wouldn't have been possible without our friends at Velocity. We will have pictures and videos from the show up very soon. Next up, be prepared for some great edits and possibly a film. We're getting ready to film across the country and a little abroad. That should start late this winter and continue throughout the next year. We've got some swag in the works and are working on partnering up with some great companies to do some collab work. Also we have product reviews and interviews coming up soon from some of the great companies and people that we have the pleasure working with.

Thanks for your patience while we were on hiatus and keep your eyes peeled for the new and exciting things that are going to be coming out of VELOSHIP

=BIKE FILM FEST 2010=

A MONTH OR SO BACK I FINALLY MADE IT TO THE BICYCLE FILM FEST, HELD IN PORTLAND. HAVING WANTED TO GO FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS AND NOT MAKING IT... THIS YEAR I WAS EXCITED TO MAKE A POINT AND SCHEDULE IT IN!

ONCE WE ARRIVED AT THE EVENT, I WAS STOKED TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE OUT TO SUPPORT THE FILM AND BIKE CULTURE. AN ENTIRE TWO BLOCKS WERE CLOSED OFF TO ACCOMODATE THE INFLUX OF CYCLING MOVIE-GOERS... AND IT WAS PACKED!
OUR POSSE DECIDED TO ROLL INTO DOTS AND EAT WHILE WE TOOK IT ALL IN... OF THE TWO SCREENINGS SHOWN THAT NIGHT, WE DECIDED TO ATTEND NEITHER. SKIPPING THE $10 COVER, WE MASHED ON FRENCH FRIES AND COFFEE... DID SOME PEOPLE WATCHING (THERE WAS A FULL ON RAVE HAPPENING IN THE STREET, COMPLETE WITH DUDES IN UNDERWEAR AND GOLD BODY-SUITS, GLOWSTICKS AND ALL!), WE OPTED TO PEDAL OUT AND TOOK A NIGHT-RIDE AROUND THE WATERFRONT AND DOWNTOWN AREA.

THERE WAS AN INSANE AMOUNT OF BIKES OUT... MORE THAN WE SAW AT THE CONVENTION CENTER'S RECENT INDUSTRY BIKE SHOW. PDX DEFINITELY ROLLS DEEP... ALL IN ALL, I'M SURE IT WAS A COOL SET OF BIKE-RELATED FILMS, BET YOU I CAN SEE THEM ALL ONLINE BY NOW... HAHA, MAYBE I'LL ACTUALLY MAKE IT IN THE THEATER DOOR NEXT YEAR!!!

DIG THE VELOSHIP V'S IN THE ABOVE PIC... YEAH, ART NERD.

=BIKE LOOK=

SARAH'S WINDSOR HOUR... NICE TO SEE SARAH PICK UP ON THE VELOSHIP VIBE AND GO FLAT BLACK WITH THIS. EVEN A BUDGET BIKE LOOKS GOOD WHEN IT'S GOT A NINJA SUIT ON!

=BIKE LOOK=

COLE'S CRUISER... THIS IS COLE'S FUJI PALISADE. COLE IS A PART OF 'GEAR' CLOTHING, A LOCAL PORTLAND BIKE CLOTHING COMPANY. MORE TO COME ON THAT... NICE WHIP COLE!

=BIKE LOOK=

DYLAN'S DAILY DRIVER... A KOGO MIYATA. I REALLY DIG THE SHARPIED PRICE STILL ON HIS CHAINRING! DYLAN IS ONE OF THE GUYS BEHIND 'GEAR' CLOTHING, A COMPANY CATERING TO CYCLISTS AND THE ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH WE RIDE EVERY DAY. LOOK FOR A POST ON THEM SOON!!
